AI BYTE # 📢 - Reliance Jio and Nvidia: Building a Future of AI in India
⭐ Reliance Jio, one of India’s leading telecom giants, has entered into a strategic partnership with Nvidia, the American GPU giant.
This collaboration aims to set up a cloud-based AI infrastructure in India. The partnership will enable researchers, developers, startups, scientists, AI practitioners, and others across India to access accelerated computing and high-speed, secure cloud networking.
Role of Nvidia
Nvidia will provide Jio with end-to-end AI supercomputer technologies including CPU, GPU, networking, and AI operating systems and frameworks for building the most advanced AI models.
Nvidia will provide access to the most advanced NVIDIA® GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and NVIDIA DGX™ Cloud , an AI supercomputing service in the cloud.
The GH200 chip represents a groundbreaking advancement in computing architecture, offering unmatched performance and extensive memory bandwidth.
Role of Reliance Jio
Reliance Jio will manage and maintain the AI cloud infrastructure and oversee customer engagement and access. The company will also take care of the applications and services.
The execution and implementation of this endeavor will be overseen by Jio, leveraging its extensive expertise in Mobile Telephony, 5G Technology, Fiber Networks, and other domains.
Potential Outcomes
The partnership could potentially lead to the development of a homegrown large-language model. Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, hinted at the possibility of Reliance building its own large language models that power generative AI applications made in India for the people of India.
Future Prospects
The new AI cloud infrastructure is expected to play a significant role in driving India’s growth in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
As India advances from a country of data proliferation to creating technology infrastructure for widespread and accelerated growth, computing and technology super centers like the one envisaged with Nvidia will provide catalytic growth in the AI domain.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, underscored the transformative potential of this partnership, comparing it to the significant impact Jio has had on India’s digital landscape.
Reliance, whose biggest revenue driver is its oil business, in recent years, has expanded to numerous sectors in the past decade, including telecom and video streaming, as it has sought to diversify its empire.
Jio Platforms which is backed by Meta, Google, Qualcomm, and Intel is increasingly positioning itself as the technology distribution partner for many global giants.
It also maintains a 10-year deal with Microsoft to launch cloud data centers and resell many business offerings, and just last month the firm deepened its collaboration with Netflix.
