AI BYTE # 1 📢 : Google Launches India Version of Search Using GenAI
⭐ Google has unveiled a new way of searching the web in India, using Generative AI to create a more conversational and interactive experience.
The new feature, called Search Generative Experience (SGE), will allow users to ask questions in English and Hindi, and get answers in both text and voice formats.
SGE will also use generative AI to produce relevant and comprehensive information from various sources, instead of just showing a list of links.
SGE is a pilot project that will be available to a limited number of users who opt in to try it out. Google says that SGE is based on the latest advances in Generative AI, which can create new content from existing data, such as text, images, or audio.
It claims that SGE can answer complex and nuanced questions that traditional search engines cannot handle, and help users make sense of the vast amount of information available online.
Google launched SGE globally in May this year, as part of its vision to reinvent search with generative AI.
Elizabeth Reid, Vice-President and General Manager of Search at Google, said that “SGE is a revolutionary change in how people interact with information. With Generative AI, we can go beyond matching keywords and phrases, and generate meaningful and relevant answers that address the user’s intent and context”.
Puneesh Kumar, General Manager of Search for Google India, said that SGE is designed to cater to the needs and preferences of Indian users, who are increasingly using voice and vernacular languages to access the internet.
“We believe that SGE will make search more accessible, engaging, and useful for millions of Indians who are looking for information online,” Kumar said at a roundtable in Delhi on Wednesday.
Google says that SGE will not affect its privacy and user data policies, which will remain consistent with its existing Search platform.
Users who opt-in to try SGE will be able to switch back to the regular Search mode at any time.
AI BYTE # 2 📢 : Bengaluru Airport Partners with Industry.ai and Nvidia to Deploy Vision AI Platform at Terminal 2
⭐ Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has announced a partnership with Industry.ai, a homegrown computer vision firm, and Nvidia Corp., a US tech giant, to integrate a computer vision-based artificial intelligence (AI) platform into the airport’s operations.
The platform will be deployed at the Airport’s Terminal 2, which commences international operations from 31 August.
The platform will use video analytics and AI to track queues at various checkpoints across the terminal, analyze and resolve congestion, track abandoned baggage, and alert security staff in case of suspicious movements.
The platform will connect to video feeds from 500 live cameras across Terminal 2, which will then be connected to Industry.ai’s data analytics portal which can produce up to 12 outcomes based on the video feeds.
The vision AI platform of Industry.ai, a subsidiary of Bharat Light & Power, is based on the Nvidia Metropolis Development Suite that offers companies a ready-to-use platform to build video feed-based data analytics solutions.
The platform will help BIAL improve operational efficiency, enhance passenger experience, and ensure safety and security at the airport.
